Tourist Guide to Travel throughout the American Continent
America and everything that constitutes this continent is undoubtedly seen as a very attractive tourist destination. We can point out that in relation to size it is the second within all the continents that make up our planet, and is divided into three regions, these being North America, Central America and South America.
Over time it has become a part of the planet that we can call varied. In terms of culture, religion, languages, climates and much more.
If you have in mind to make a trip through places and countries within this continent, then pay attention to everything that we will tell you. Well, it will surely help you to understand certain things about this continent and make a much more organized trip.
Why is America called that?
America as it is well known that this part of the world was discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1942, but it was not he who gave the name of America to that part of the planet. By then this entire continent would be known as "The West Indies"
The publication of the first map of the world where this part of the world could be included in a reasonably precise way was thanks to the geographer Martín Waldseemüller, who began the process that made the Indies discovered by Christopher Columbus end up being called America. The latter in honor of Américo Vespucio.
All because Waldseemüller was impressed by the books that were written by Américo, which were related to the trips that he also made to these new lands. So, Martin decided to label this part of the world on his map with the name of "America" and in addition to this he also included in said map a good amount of information that was taken from Vespucci's books.
Another way that America has been referred to is “The New World”. Do you know why?
Why is America Known as the New World?
We can point out that it is one of the historical names with which Europeans have called or referred to the American continent. This since the end of the fifteenth century, being the result of its discovery in 1492.
So this adjective "new" is used to distinguish that part of the world from the "Old World", that is, to differentiate it from the continents already known by Europeans up to that time, these being Europe, Asia and Africa.
So the term justified its use to refer to this “newcomer” continent. On the other hand, it should be noted that the expression or qualifying adjective "New world" should not be interpreted or confused as synonymous with "modern world or contemporary world" as this refers to specific historical periods of the world.
Why was America Part of Western Culture?
To answer this question we can say that this is due to several reasons, one of them for geographical reasons. Well, it is a continent that is located in the western part of the world. And on the other hand, we have the fact that it was colonized by Europe.
So, we must say that Western culture had its birth in Europe, based on Greek and Roman cultures, with Christianity helping to shape the ethics and mentality of Westerners.
Given the role of colonization in America, we can say that this continent includes countries that are culturally related to Western civilization, and this derives precisely from colonization. Well, before the arrival of the European powers in America, they set out to introduce and establish their customs and religious beliefs, as well as their cultural elements such as language, for example.
It is clear then why the current inhabitants of America have a great relationship with the West.
