Is it necessary to print the boarding pass?

When taking a flight, we may probably have several questions, these can range from what time we should be at the airport, to whether the boarding pass and check in is the same.

If you do not travel often by air through airports, it is likely that there are certain terms that will confuse you, but don't worry, it is something quite common among people who use airplanes as a means of transport to attend places for fun, entertainment , work, etc.

First of all, it is necessary to clarify that the boarding pass is not the same as the ticket, technically. The ticket is your “ticket” to get on the plane, however this ticket generates an “e-ticket”, or an electronic ticket, when you book your flight.

The pass, on the other hand, is generated upon check-in, either online or at the check-in counter.

Having clarified this, to understand if check-in and boarding pass are the same, it is necessary to define each one separately.

Check In and Boarding Pass: What is a Boarding Pass?

It is a document that gives a passenger permission to board the plane. It contains information about flight times, boarding times, and seat assignments for that flight. As you can see, it is very similar to the ticket, but previously we explained the difference between one and the other.

The pass is delivered upon check-in, either online or in person at a kiosk, or at the check-in counter.

If you check-in online before your flight, your boarding pass may be emailed to you to print at home.

What happens if the boarding pass is lost?

If you have not yet gone through the security control, you must go back to the check-in desk of your airline and print a boarding pass again from there

If you've already gone through security, go to the boarding gate and ask the gate agent to reprint your boarding pass.

Is it necessary for the boarding pass to match the name of my identification?

The answer is yes. Your pass must exactly match the first and last names on your ID or passport. Some airlines do not include the middle name, and others combine the second and first names.

If there are errors in the names, what to do?

If you have made a mistake entering your name when purchasing the ticket, please call the airline as soon as possible to have the mistake corrected.

Is Boarding Pass and Check in the Same? What does the Check-In refer to?

Checking in on a flight is basically the confirmation that you intend to get on the plane.

If you do not show up, you will not receive a boarding pass that allows you to board the plane, and in the same way, your seat could be transferred to a waiting passenger. The check-in process also confirms the traveler's details, such as passport details and frequent flyer number.

Checking in online is advantageous for several reasons. The sooner you check-in, the sooner you can choose your seat since if you fly with a basic ticket in economy class, this will be the first opportunity you have to choose a seat.

Seat selection is done on a first-come, first-served basis, so it's important to check-in as soon as possible.

You can also pay for an upgrade at this time, again this is based on availability, so check in as soon as possible if you expect to pay for an upgrade to a higher class.

If a flight is oversold, those who checked in last could be at higher risk of being kicked off the flight (although this varies by airline and fare).

Is it better to check-in for a flight online or at the airport?

Generally, it is better to check-in onlineas you can do it much earlier than you could in person at the airport.

As we mentioned before, it is especially important to check-in early for a flight, as the boarding order is determined by the check-in order.

If you can't check-in online (as some airlines require you to check in in person for certain flights, especially when it comes to international flights) make sure you arrive at the airport in good time before your flight, as that you might have to wait in a long line.
